Hi guys! Continuing with my character studies for 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly', here's Lee Van Cleef as Angel Eyes, aka, 'The Bad', for your amusement and edification :) Same as Clint last week, this is a pencil sketch with values and skin tones done in Photoshop. Below is the finished image: And check out the stages of development below, starting with my source image: Stay tunes next week for Eli Wallach as Tuco, or 'The Ugly', and then we start in on the painting.
As ever, thanks for stopping by. Andy

So, I decided to watch 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' two nights ago, and it rocked my world the same way it has every time I've watched it since I was like, five years old. (This film is 52 years old, and still COMPLETELY rocks, by the way.... just saying. If you have never seen it, it is WORTH streaming, or the DVD, or however you catch your movies ;) My Dad used to love this movie. We had the soundtrack on 8-Track, which we played in the house on this enormous Zenith 8-Track and record player, with massive sub-woofer speakers stock-built into the frame. (I don't know how many of you might remember these staggering players, but back in the 70's before cassette tapes came around, they were the big deal for your average household.) Good God I am old. I actually remember this stuff! Long live Zenith. Well, Rest In Peace, Zenith. Here is a pic of what these players looked like (Not ours, but similar). Hard to believe this was how people listened to music back in the day! So,getting back to my story: I grabbed a suitable still-frame off the movie of Clint doing one of his best squinty-eyed things that he does so well. Below is a character study towards a developing painting idea... I am thinking of giving the same treatment for Eli Wallach as Tuco and Lee Van Cleef as Angel Eyes, and then doing a long painting with the three portraits afterwards. So here is Clint Eastwood as 'Blonde'... Check out the slideshow below for how I developed this, starting with the movie frame: Let me know your thoughts!
peace, Andy If I could get Frankenstein's Monster to sit for a classic portrait in a renaissance style, what would he look like? I figured he'd probably need to be in chains or something, so he couldn't get up and kill me for any reason he might have. Would he prefer his Dungeon, or a sunnier setting? I opted for sunny and classical, and even gave him a plush seat and renaissance neck ruff collar (They were all the rage in 15th and 16th centuries), and then went from there.... This one went through a few changes, click on the slideshow below to see all the places I went through to get to the final image: Thanks for checking out my stuff! Drop me a line or an email to let me know your thoughts :)
Take care everyone, Andy Hey guys! This is Abby the dog, which was completed as a Christmas present this past December- just now catching up to posting all of this stuff on the site :) Although I worked off of several photos, this is the main reference used to render the work below, with the finished piece next to it: Click the slideshow below to see all the stages I went through from pencil sketch to finished work: And as always, thank you for stopping in an checking out the work!
