Latest painting! "Lion With Fireflies", Acrylic on Gallery Canvas, 15" x 30" I woke up one morning recently thinking to myself, " It's come to this. I really need to paint a lion today." So, that's how this whole thing happened... what else could I do? Some days, ya really just have to paint a lion, by golly by gum. I started out with a photo reference, and then let the work evolve from there, with the fireflies and the night time scene happening sort of intuitively. The fireflies just happened by chance, when I found a firefly image online while looking for forest and tree photo references. When the fireflies came on, other issues like whether to make it day or night, and whether or not to include a sky became more clear. They solved everything! Fireflies are great, I tell you. ...And below are all the steps it took to get to the finish: This painting will be shown with a collection of my other work at Open Studios on October 13-14, at the Imago Dei Art Gallery at 1668 Bush Street in SF! Save the date and more info as it comes closer :) Thanks for looking, you guys!
Have a great day, Andy
