Here is my latest piece and a work in progress, about 70% finished! Thor here will be going up soon at Amazing Fantasy, a local Comic Book Store out on 9th @ Irving in the inner Sunset in San Francisco! The theme is a made-up, 70's and 80's style comic book cover, with Thor styled from this time (instead of from the new movies). The Creature destroying the Golden Gate Bridge came from Ray Harryhausen's 'It Came From Beneath The Sea,' which is a classic sci-fi film from the 40's. The idea for the painting started from a Norse myth about Thor going fishing and hooking the World Serpent, which he wrestled with and had to let go after and epic struggle lasting for many days. I started with this general concept, and then went for a comic book, pulse-pounding, double-fisted action kind of scene in the spirit of a Jack Kirby or maybe even a John Buscema style comic cover. Using the 'It came From Beneath the Sea' monster felt fun and just made sense, by golly by gum! Below are the various stages the work has gone through so far: Thanks for looking and tune in next week- two new commissions in the works- a new Star Wars Empire Strikes Back for Will, and a Third Robbie the Robot for Adriann to show; same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel ;)
